Hot Toddy with Botanical Rum and Pineapple

This hot toddy recipe is made with our Fyn Botanical Rum, pineapple, honey, and warm spices. It’s the perfect winter drink to soothe the body or to enjoy with excellent company. With an added bonus, it has some great nutritional benefits, too!

Do Hot Toddies Actually Work?

There are a bunch of health benefits in this warm cocktail which can soothe your body of its aches and pains. To top it off rum helps to keep your blood thin and flowing well.

In this recipe we replaced the extra sugar with pineapple juice. Which also happens to contain bromelain, an enzyme that can help breakdown protein for better digestion.

The juice also has anti-inflammatory properties and is loaded with Vitamin C. Finally a serving of rum is gluten free and has been shown to provide anti-microbial properties which may help when suffering from a cold!


  • 1 cup pineapple juice

  • 2 cups water

  • 3 tbsp honey (preferably raw)

  • 170 to 230 ml Fyn Botanical Rum

  • 230 grams of ginger ale or sparkling water with ginger bitters

  • 2 cinnamon sticks and pinch of cinnamon (or 1 tsp ground cinnamon)

  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

  • Pineapple slices to garnish

  • Star anise or whole cloves to garnish

Optional Extras:

  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 120 ml non dairy cream or 2 tbsp butter (warmed)


  1. Place juice, water, honey, ginger ale, and alcohol in a small pot on the stove. Simmer on medium heat until combined and honey is dissolved, approximately 2 minutes.

  2. Add in cinnamon sticks and remaining spices. Continue simmering on low or medium low heat for another 5 minutes. If you are adding cream/butter and/or vanilla extract, do so here. Heat and stir until combined.

  3. Pour into 2-3 glasses and then garnish with star anise, pineapple slices, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top if desired.
